…fab architectural photography by Ballogg Photo…my kind of town…chicago is…
For the past ten years, behind the brick walls of an industrial building in the Irving Park section of Chicago, the Grammy Award-winning, genre-bending Wilco, and many of their musical guests, have been not-so-quietly making music.
I was amazed and terrified at the same time when I first saw the newest Chicago attraction - glass balconies on the tallest building in the US, Sears Tower (now Willis Tower). The balconies are one and half inch thick, suspended more than 1,353 feet in the air and out four feet from the building’s 103rd floor, the Skydeck. They are using low-iron, clear glass which is fully tempered and heat-soaked for durability. They will be able to accommodate up to 5 people.
I am serious, how amazing are they? The planning, engineering and architecture behind it takes my breath away. This is what stepping out of the box really is, no? (In this case it literally means stepping out of the building)…
